Why I Love Working With Volunteers

I recently heard someone share this. It made me begin to think about what I do. Immediately I thought to myself, I love my job. Then I thought about the many hours that I put in for my job and the fatigue that often follows. I would definitely say that while I love my job, it is a lot of work. So I pondered this quote a little longer and considered all of the reasons I love my job.
I have to say, I really love most of my job especially all of the volunteers I am blessed with for each project. I thought I would highlight my top three reasons why I love working with volunteers.
1. Their Energy: Volunteers arrive eager and ready to work. In fact my volunteers are so eager and full of energy, they often arrive before I do. Their energy is infectious and never fails to lift my energy level.
2. Their Passio
n: Volunteers are passionate about what they do and by using their talents they inspire others to do the same. Many of the volunteers I've been blessed to work with over the years have taken a job that seemed mundane to some and breathed life in it by sprinkling it with their passion for the job.
3. Their Commitment: When volunteers keep coming back over and over it allows us to be efficient. Volunteers who work with us over a longer period of time help us to work efficiently allowing us to make a lasting impact in our community.
As I sat here trying to narrow down what I love most, my list kept growing. Over the past ten years, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of volunteers. Each one has brought with them talents, knowledge, passion and energy that they eagerly shared.
This myth that loving a job, where you live, or even loving a person is uncontrollable, it's something that just happens. But I would suggest loving anyone or thing is a choice. Being happy and content is a choice and it represents commitment.
My volunteers continue to impress me, bless me and pour into my life. I encourage you to share your talents, skills, knowledge & smile as a volunteer for something you believe in. You will not only bless others but you in turn will be blessed.
